As some of you may recall, I had a bit of a health incident five years ago when my heart decided to take a short break (20 minutes or so).
Happily, there was a defibrillator machine (an automatic external defibrillator or “AED”) nearby, and when my friend Andrew Mackenzie ran to raise the alarm, the staff at the hotel were eventually able to bring me back to life.
When I woke up three days later, I learned about the AED that had been used to save my life. I am a fan of these machines, and I firmly believe that they should be everywhere, preferrably in the form of public-access defibrillators (“PADS”)
As a sign of my appreciation for being alive, I donated a PAD to Penicuik Rugby Club (here I am pictured with it after the game on Saturday).
I wanted to do a fundraiser so that more of these life-saving machines can be made publically available.
I thought about what an appropriate challenge to raise funds might be. Push-ups are well and good, but when it comes down to it, there aren’t many tougher challenges for a 53 year old member of the undead community like me than playing a season of rugby, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Happily, this coincides with PRFC’s 100th anniversary season.
This is not to say that I am going to play every single game. My diary won’t allow that, but I’ll do my best.
Please do support me and my chosen charity, LUCKY2BHERE in this challenge. All donations gratefully received.
